Applications are invited for a full-time substantive Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology to join our growing team in Milton Keynes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious department, which is expanding its Endoscopic services into the newly developed Whitehouse Community Diagnostic Centre. The purpose of this post is to enhance acute medical service with the Trust and early input into care of acute gastroenterology illnesses. There is an opportunity to develop the services provided for the adult population served by Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This includes responsibilities for diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of patients presenting as either emergencies or those referred on an elective basis. Working with the existing team of gastroenterologists to provide clinical care including endoscopy service to patients with gastrointestinal disorders in Milton Keynes. The appointee will be expected to complement the whole GI service including inpatients, out-patients and endoscopy. Candidates with a wide variety of gastroenterology experience at the middle-grade or above level will be considered and the successful candidate could possibly take in enhancing the current service and will have the opportunity to help consultants develop the new services in the department.
Main duties of the job
- The successful candidate will be responsible to work under the supervision of the Consultant Gastroenterologists. He/she will be expected to participate in most of the day to day activities of the department in cooperation with the rest of the medicine staff.
b. The main duties are to provide elective and emergency care to gastroenterology patients who present to Milton Keynes NHS FT. The department strives to provide early specialist input into the care of acute gastroenterology admissions.
- The postholder will perform procedures appropriate for their level and experience, with supervision where necessary. The postholder will be able to do endoscopy lists including procedures appropriate to their skills. Training of the postholder will be encouraged to enhance their skills and also to uptake new skills. Independent practice for gastroscopy and colonoscopy with some therapeutic skills will be preferred.
