Advanced Spinal Physiotherapy Practitioner
Department: Trauma and Orthopaedics
Band 8a - £50,952 - £57,349 per annum
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
MKUH has an amazing opportunity for you to join us as an Advanced Spinal Physiotherapist. The Spinal department is look to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and driven individual to support with the development of the spinal service at MKUH.
The successful candidate will use clinical-reasoning skills to undertake assessment of the presenting problem, interpret findings, develop working and differential diagnoses, and formulate, communicate and implement management plans that take into account patients needs, goals and wishes, local service availability and relevant local and national guidelines and policies with the support of the surgical team.

Main duties of the job
The post holder must have significant clinical experience in MSK physiotherapy with specialist knowledge in spinal pathologies.
It is important that the individual has experience of working in a clinic environment to provide a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
The role will involve assessing complex spinal pathologies, referring for investigations to assist with diagnosis and the development of a management plan.

Job responsibilities
To co-ordinate service delivery of the MSK physiotherapy pathways.
To undertake an extended clinical role, performing advanced and specialist therapeutic assessment and treatment of patients with orthopaedic presentations. To provide a diagnosis, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
To be an autonomous practitioner in assessing new patients, working alongside orthopaedic consultants, and other healthcare professionals as required.
Undertake referral triage, including responsibility for the management of both routine and complex pathologies, using advanced clinical knowledge, problem solving and decision-making skills.
To develop and foster productive relationships with local consultants, GPs and other organisations.
To formulate strategies to implement quality improvement, national standards, and clinical audit across the MSK physiotherapy services.
Line Management of staff where appropriate.
To be responsible for the development and utilisation of research evidence, evidence-based practice and integrating this into clinical practice and service delivery to show demonstrable improvement through clinical service redesign.
To undertake and complete additional training and development to support extended clinical physiotherapy role as required.
Case discussion with spinal consultants.
Organizing appropriate investigations for example blood tests and MRI scans
Discussing onwards management with patients in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
