Bank Specialist Physiotherapist

Department: Inpatient Therapies

Band 6

Hours: zero hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The Therapy Services at Milton Keynes University Hospital are looking for registered Physiotherapists to join our staff bank at Band 6.

The clinical areas available are:o Respiratory - Respiratory medicine including NIV, General surgery including ERP programme and ICU (including referring on for post-ICU outpatient recovery)o MSK Outpatients including hydrotherapy - assessing and treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal patients' post-injury, post-surgical and long-term condition / pain management, referred from orthopaedics, rheumatology and pain clinic. o Inpatient Orthopaedics - Trauma and Electiveo Acute Stroke Unito Acute assessment and frailty teamo Orthopaedic outreach service - following up complex post operative orthopaedic surgery for patients that have not achieved their goals at the point of discharge o Complex medicine including gastro and intermediate care style ward.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for dynamic individuals who want to join our services and work alongside the substantive workforce in providing rehabilitation and care of a wide variety of patient's across different services.

We support flexible working so will consider applicants who have specific shift requirements to suit their work life balance.

The successful applicants will be highly motivated, flexible and an innovative therapist. Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills are essential, and you should be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

We offer several support and development opportunities, including, In-service training, clinical supervision, leadership development sessions and support from our Therapy Practice Education team, all of which are available to bank staff also.

To provide advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To hold responsibility for own case-load and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a Senior Physiotherapist is available if required, clinical work is not regularly evaluated.

To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to Therapy Lead or Therapy Service Lead for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.

  • To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work

To be responsible for:

  • Teaching student physiotherapists to graduate level on physiotherapeutic skills and knowledge within core clinical areas.
  • Providing support & guidance to other physiotherapists and assistants.

Organisational

  • To be responsible for the supervision and coordination of band 5 staff, students and assistants on a daily basis, in conjunction with the Lead Therapist for each clinical area as required.
  • To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meet the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice.
