Band 2 part-time

Hours: 30 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person to join our friendly Team working in the Surgical Directorate based on Ward 23.Ward 23 specialises in Trauma and orthopaedics, Ear Nose and Throat and spinal care. Ward 23 is the largest Ward in the trust with 40 beds.

We need an organised, friendly and helpful Ward Clerk to support our patients and Ward team with the everyday administrative duties on the ward.

The base work will be Monday to Friday 8-4pm, however the role is open for flexible working and alternate hours can be agreed with the Ward Manager.

The Ward Clerk will undertake data inputting and administrative work whilst also providing reception duties for the Unit as per standard systems and processes, in order to support effective patient flow. The Ward Clerk will need to work without close supervision, using their own initiative when dealing with enquiries that arise.

Close co-operation with Medical Records, Secretarial staff as well as the clinical staff, is vital. The post demands the ability to communicate at all levels with patients, relatives and medical colleagues to maintain a high standard of service.

The ideal candidate should be hard working, have good communication skills and be able to prioritise own workload. Previous NHS and or receptionist experience would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

  • Greet all visitors to the unit in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner.
  • The undertaking of general organisation of paperwork and notes within the Unit to ensure an organized department.
  • To answer the telephone, taking and delivering messages in an appropriate and helpful manner. Manage Out-patients diary.
  • To liaise with staff from other departments in an effective manner to include the bed manager/medical records/divisional bleep holders as requested.
  • Deal with and distribute incoming mail, checking and replying to ward emails.
  • Ensure all patients' notes on the unit are maintained in good order with test results promptly and correctly filed.
  • Arrange out patient's appointments as required.
  • Carry out procedures via the Trusts computer system for the admission, transfer and discharge of patient's.
