Job Profile
The post holder will be a locum Trauma and Orthopaedic consultant with a subspeciality interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.
The programme will contain a mixture of outpatient clinics (elective, DDH, CTEV, neuromuscular, fracture), theatres (elective, trauma) and potential on-call commitments.
It is essential that the successful candidate can demonstrate advanced training and experience in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery.
The successful candidate will need to work closely with the current Consultant Orthopaedics Surgeons and multi-disciplinary team within the department and also with colleagues across the Trust and region
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
To share with colleagues the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Services and patients.
Teaching and training of Junior Staff and Medical Students.
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional Development (CPD).

- Know how to be able to manage the acutely ill patient.
- To be competent in communication skills with colleagues, staff and patients as well as documentation.
- To be able to work as a member of a team and with other teams in a multi-disciplinary setting.

- To be competent in the area of decision making and prioritising ones workload as well as demonstrating effective time management.
Job Plan
The job plan on appointment will consist of a split of 3.5:0.5 DCC/SPA. The SPA component is made up of core activities (appraisal, revalidation, CME, routine departmental meetings etc.) and non-core activities. Non-core activities are discussed and agreed within the Trust (via an agreed tariff and, on occasion, through ad personal agreement). Non-core SPA may reflect activities such as educational supervision, research, leadership and quality improvement. Following appointment, non-core SPA may be used to participate in our consultant development programme, or in acquiring or consolidating specific skills and expertise. Non-core SPA is only available if specific activities and objectives are mutually agreed in job planning.
