Orthodontic Technologist

Orthodontic & OMFS Department

Band 5-6 dependant upon qualification and experience

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are looking to appoint a GDC registered Dental Technologist to provide technical support to the Trusts Orthodontists.

This is a developmental post and could suit those who are newly qualified or want to gain further experience within Orthodontic Technology. An eye for detail, and a desire to learn and develop is essential. There is vision to explore and develop a 3D point of care service within the Orthodontics, and the successful candidate will be instrumental in how this is shaped.

Experience working within a NHS Trust is desirable, but not essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a vital part of the Orthodontic and Maxillofacialclinicaltechnical team, responsible for manufacturing highly specialisedcomplexwork with a degree of individual responsibility, extending over a wide range of work activities that are complex andnon-routine, supporting the Consultants and otherclinical staff in the Head and Neck Directorate.

They are expected to make a proactive contribution to the development of the expanding services provided by the Orthodontic and MaxillofacialUnit andexpectedto useinitiativeand original thought forthe design and development ofprotypeappliances/devices.

They will also be expected to advise/instructcliniciansof all grades, nursing staff and students in the aspects ofDentalTechnology whenrequired andhaveadditionalskills in Clinical Photography and Information Technology for treatment planning and clinical audit.

Thepostholdermust ensure technical and clinical practices and protocol pathways are adheredto andmodified accordingly.

Essential

  • First Degree in Dental Sciences (or equivalent)
  • Experience in Orthodontic Technology
  • Knowledge of M.H.R.A, C.O.S.H.H, Health and Safety legislation in addition to other policies governing profession.
  • GDC State registered

Desirable

  • Calibrated in PAR
  • Photographic Certificate
  • Awareness of NHS and Trust systems, policies, procedures and current changes.

Experience

  • Dental and Orthodontic Production environment, commercial or hospital based
