Applications are invited for x2 Consultants to join the dynamic and modern Gastroenterology department in Milton Keynes. This is an exciting time to join a developing and ambitious team. We are looking for an enthusiastic individuals who will bring skills, knowledge and experience to the role. Candidates with preliminary experience, interest and commitment in EUS and/ or hepatology will be supported well as we look to develop and grow these areas.
We welcome candidates with CCT or equivalent in gastroenterology. In particular a special interest or experience in hepatology and/ or endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP will be considered. Any reasonable development and training requirements will be supported by the department. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will join a committed team, contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of the provision of the gastroenterology and hepatology services, as well as meeting the demands of the endoscopy service.
The role encompasses mainly providing general endoscopy as well as gastroenterology clinics, there is also the ability to provide pancreatobiliary services if this is an area of special interest.
The candidates will be expected to embrace the other aspects of DGH gastroenterology including attendance and involvement with UGI MDT, and will be required to partake in the out of hours GI bleeding rota and future expansion of 7 day service.

Job responsibilities
The main duties are to provide elective and emergency care to general gastroenterology and hepatology medical patients presenting to Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
To provide out-of-hour GI bleeding rota cover currently 1 in 7 rota (0.6 PA on call with 0.45 PA of weekend ward cover and 5% supplement is payable)
Responsibilities which relate to a special interest will be supported. There will be opportunities to develop special interests in hepatology and/or EUS and therapeutic endoscopy particularly.
Professional supervision, training and management of junior medical staff.
Responsible for carrying out teaching, as requested by the College Tutor.
This will involve contributing to and participating in postgraduate and continuing medical education activities, both locally and nationally. There is opportunity to get involved in teaching of Buckingham medical school students.
Requirement to participate in the Directorates medical audit activities and take a share in running the education activities including teaching and audit.
Involvement in research is encouraged.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services and will share with consultant colleagues in the contribution to management roles and responsibilities. Subject to the provision of the Terms and Conditions of the Service, the appointee will be expected to observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation on clinical matters, and to follow the local and national employment and personnel policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to make sure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of their patients to be able to contact them when necessary.
The post holder may be very occasionally required to carry out domiciliary consultations or services by mutual agreement.
All medical staff employed by the Trust are expected to comply with regional and appropriate hospital health and safety policies.
The successful candidate agrees to have responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff who work with them and will devote time to this activity on a regular basis. If appropriate, the successful candidate will be named in the contracts of doctors in training grades as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as the initial source of advice to such doctors on their careers.
The post holder will get appropriate financial support and study leave to achieve their CPD.
The post holder is expected to undergo an annual job planning and appraisal as a contractual obligation.
