Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join our dynamic and forward thinking Children's Services at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, as part of on-going investment into the service. You will join a busy, friendly and developing Children's Services treating the children and young people of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.
The Paediatric department comprises teams of junior doctors, middle grade doctors and consultants working together in the management of children and young people. The current middle grade tier comprises of ten Staff Grade paediatricians, and six Specialist Registrars (ST4-7) on the Oxford rotation. Generally, both SHOs and middle grade doctors/registrars come under the term "Junior Doctors" The post holder would be expected to join the middle grade team supporting both general paediatrics and neonatology. In acute Paediatrics, there are currently 14 full time consultants. The junior doctor rota has recently expanded and provides separate out of hours cover for both general paediatrics and neonates. There are 12 doctors and 4 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners on the first tier.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide general paediatric and neonatal services for the prevention, diagnosis and management of illness and the proper functioning of the department. This will include performing urgent Child Safeguarding Medical, under the supervision of the consultant. Undertaking general paediatric outpatient clinics and other special interest clinics as appropriate to the skills/interests of the post holder.
The post holder must maintain continuing professional development and will be encouraged to attend relevant professional courses and meetings. They will attend and contribute to departmental teaching, research and audit participation, with an option for taking an appraiser role.
The post holder will continue responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge including all administrative duties associated with patient care as middle grade.
