Department: Estates Services
Band 7 £43,742 to £50,056 per annum plus (Golden Hello 10% on first year and 2nd year5 % Anniversary Payments)
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
The Estates Services Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital is actively searching for a Trust Fire Safety Advisor to contribute to ensuring a secure environment for all hospital users. We are seeking for an individual with a good knowledge in hospital fire safety, including fire risk management, assessment, and auditing, expertise with fire legislation and codes of practice, and experience in providing fire safety training.
The chosen candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Strategic Estate and Project Development plans and will provide guidance to end users on fire safety matters. Main duties of the job
Act as a specialist advisor to the Trust on all matters related to fire safety, ensuring the Trust complies with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- The post holder will be responsible for undertaking a program of suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments throughout the Trust
- To provide competent Trust wide fire safety advice to staff
- Deliver fire awareness training to all staff and volunteers
- To ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and Fire code across the Trust.

Service Responsibilities
- Carry out planned maintenance across a range of electrical and mechanical systems
- Provide interpretation and application of the provisions of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire code and other official guidance and legislation in respect of fire safety in NHS premises. Ensure that fire safety statutory compliance is co-ordinated and maintained.
- Carry out suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments as per the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire code and the Trusts Fire Safety Action Plan. Undertake specialist fire risk assessments within clinical and non-clinical environments as required. Ensure the dissemination and practical application of fire risk assessments to functional heads and staff with specific fire responsibilities.
Financial Responsibilities
- To manage the fire budget for maintenance
- Raise Purchase Orders as required for specialist materials, equipment and services.
Personnel Responsibilities
- To maintain effective channels of communication within the Trust between Management, staff, contractors, visitors.
- To work openly with other staff within the department to ensure technical information is recorded and disseminated through the various disciplines as required

- Fire Service or NHS Fire Safety Advisor background
- Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers
- Comprehensive knowledge of current fire safety legislation, Fire code and associated guidance documents, achieved through courses or experience to master's level or equivalent
- Comprehensive working knowledge of fire detection, emergency lighting and other systems in relation to fire precautions.
