Senior Matron - Surgery
Band 8b £58,972 - £68,525 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides elective and emergency surgery to the population of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas of south Northamptonshire and north-west Bedfordshire. The surgical directorate has 120 inpatient beds across four ward areas. The clinical service units include musculoskeletal, head and neck, general surgery, theatres and anaesthetics, and outpatient units. The surgical directorate has designated anaesthetic and operating theatres, with an associated recovery unit.
The surgical directorate at MKUH are committed in our vision to strengthening our Senior Nursing structure and with this; an exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Matron with proven Leadership experience and Staff Management.
The post holder will be required to strike an effective balance between management and clinic responsibilities. We are seeking to appoint an individual with a proven track record of service innovation and quality improvement whilst leading a nursing team to deliver safe and effective care within the hospital setting.

Main duties of the job
This role requires compassionate leadership qualities to ensure effective working across multiple teams, an unrelenting focus on patient safety and continuous quality improvement who is a strong advocate for patient care and staff wellbeing and professional development.
We are looking for a highly motivated, responsible person with a strong sense of accountability to fulfil this exciting role of Senior Matron within Surgery, Anaesthetics and Critical Care Group.

This role will report directly to the Divisional Head of Nursing and have an individualised portfolio of clinical areas and staff, deputising for the Divisional Head of Nursing, whilst leading on delegated projects within the division and assisting with shaping the Divisional nursing direction and strategy. An individualised support and development plan will also be provided.
You will be responsible for assisting the Divisional Head of Nursing with the development and delivery of clinical services and professional standards and the development of nursing leadership within the Division. You will:
Provide professional and managerial leadership for designated nursing teams and specialist nurses, providing a highly visible and authoritative presence ensuring the provision of high quality, responsive services with the needs of the patient at the centre of care delivery.
Work in partnership with the Divisional Senior Leadership Team to ensure effective and efficient management of delegated projects to meet agreed targets within the resources available.
Work in partnership with the Divisional Senior Leadership Team to ensure effective divisional quality governance systems and processes.
Maintain a visible presence where patients, staff and visitors can turn for assistance and upon whom they can rely to ensure that the fundamental and specialist aspects of care are met.
Lead on delegated projects to promote and develop nursing and nursing practice within the Division.
