Applicants are invited to apply for a Specialty Doctor post in Gastroenterology at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital. This allows us to attract, train and retain the best doctors.
The hospital has a newly built modern Endoscopy Unit, and a 25 bedded gastroenterology ward. There are 6 Consultant Gastroenterologists, 1 Associate Specialist, 3 Middle Grades, 2 Specialist Registrars, 1 CMT, 2FY2s and 2FY1. The service also has 2.5 IBD nurses, 2 UGI cancer nurses and 3 nurse endoscopists. The department runs successful bowel cancer screening lists (screening colonoscopy and bowel scope). There are facilities for upper, lower GI diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, and full Olympus equipment including Scopeguide in 2 rooms. There is also therapeutic endoscopy services providing oesophageal dilatations, metal stents and therapeutic ERCPs, advanced polypectomies and endoscopic mucosal resections. The bronchoscopy is carried out in the endoscopy unit.
Main duties of the job
This post is part of the Gastroenterology service which includes inpatients responsibilities, outpatient clinics and endoscopy sessions. There is opportunity for the successful candidate to discuss their professional development plans and department is very happy to support these as needed. Independent endoscopy skills for gastroscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy are ideally required and further competences will be developed with appropriate training opportunities.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.
