Acute Medical Assessment Unit (Ward 1)
Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse
£ 43,742- £ 50,056 per annum
37.5 Hours per week (Permanent) all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We are looking for an experienced Senior Sister/ Charge nurse or experienced Junior Sister to lead our dedicated and dynamic Ward 1 team which provides acute medical care. We are looking for someone who can work collaboratively with a great nursing team and provide strong clinical leadership acting as a role model to a diverse nursing team. We work closely with the Emergency Department and other departments such as Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).

Main duties of the job
To act as the professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the nursing team.
To have continuous responsibility for the management and organisation of the ward/department within the available resources.
To be accountable for the overall provision of excellent nursing care and to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
To assess the effectiveness of current practices within the ward/department and introduce innovations that lead to improved quality of care.
To maintain the highest standards of patient care at all times, ensuring that quality and compassion are your top priorities.
To develop the Ward philosophy of nursing and its contribution to the Trust's and division's nursing philosophy of care, ensuring that all policies and procedures are implemented and to lead on the development of nursing practice.
To continually review the setting of staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service and informing the Senior Nurse of any problems that may arise.
To ensure efficient management of resources, fulfilment of contractual obligations and achievement of National Standards and government targets

- Provide excellent clinical leadership by demonstrating best practice in the clinical environment, working on a one-to-one basis with both staff and patients and engaging with other members of the MDT to observe performance of care from all levels; challenging, correcting or encouraging as practice is observed, ensuring high standards are maintained.
- Ensure that there are systems in place to store, check and administer medicines in accordance with the Trust, National and NMC standards and policies.
- To promote innovative and collaborative working practice within the nursing and multi-disciplinary team, to ensure an effective working environment is developed and maintained and to ensure outside agencies are involved where appropriate.
- Representing the ward/department at meetings, participating in audit, research and other projects, whilst contributing to the development of policy Trust wide.

- RGN with 5 years relevant post registration experience.
- Relevant First Degree/ENB 237/A27 or equivalent
- ENB 998 and relevant teaching experience.
