The Microbiology Department at Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is part of an ever growing UKAS accredited Pathology Department.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, energetic, and highly motivated HCPC registered Advanced Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology laboratory team. The successful candidate would have completed an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or FIBMS in Microbiology and an IBMS Specialist Portfolio with significant demonstrable competency, experience, and decision-making ability at the required level.

The department is very passionate about staff development, you will have the opportunity to get first-hand experience in departments Management and Service Development while leading a team of highly motivated staff.

The department provides good opportunities for CPD and ongoing education/training relevant to the job role will be supported. The laboratory is also a part of South 4 Pathology Partnership Network and works very closely with other Network laboratories.

Main duties of the job

To provide day to day operational management of a section of Microbiology Laboratory ensuring the department's QMS, staff, equipment and materials are managed to deliver a safe high-quality laboratory service. Provide specialist knowledge & management applicable to the section. Develop and implement new processes/technologies as required whileproviding leadership for laboratory's bands 3-6. Support the provision of a 24/7 laboratory service (as and when required by the management team).

Deputise from among the Senior BMS group in the absence of the Chief BMS always ensuring sufficient knowledge of departments affairs.

The ideal applicant for this role will need to be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, familiar with Quality Assurance, Quality Management & LIMS with a genuine desire to learn new skills and develop.

You will also have the responsibility for maintaining the existing Quality Management System, UKAS accreditation, HSE requirements, staff training, validating, and authorising investigations, troubleshooting but most importantly providing a safe and quality lead patient service.

You will be required to support a 24/7 service which involves working core, evenings and nightshifts over weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.

Lead/manage lab section(s) to achieve operational goals, organisational objectives, and other requirements of service users.
