Job summary

As an expert practitioner in critical care, be the first dedicated Practice Educator in Intensive Care in Milton Keynes University Hospital. This is a 1-year Fixed Term/Secondment to join our progressive and dedicated team. As we look towards a new build and expansion, you will have the skills and knowledge to shape and develop the profession for the future and demonstrate outcomes to secure the need for a substantive role. You will be a highly specialised and experienced critical care nurse with a 60 credit Intensive Care course and evidence of academic achievement at master's Level 7. To facilitate learning for pre and post registration students you will be an inspiring leader and practitioner with a recognised teaching and assessing qualification e.g., PGCE or be prepared to undertake this as a fundamental requirement for the role.

Main duties of the job

To develop and implement a shared educational vision for critical care.

To be responsible for the development and management of the educational service for staff within Critical Care.

To be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality multi-professional learning, including the ability to work within Critical Care where inter-professional learning opportunities can be promoted.

Job responsibilities

Collaborate with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care and Matron to achieve the educational vision for the Critical Care service.

Identify, plan, develop and manage the education and development needs for the critical care service.

Develop, deliver, and evaluate the educational programmes for new and existing nursing staff within Critical Care, utilising the skill and experience of the multi-disciplinary team within the department, the Trust, and external organisations.

Promote an environment that encourages learning and sustains the personal and professional development of staff.

Coordinate the supervision, assessment, and development of clinical skills of the nursing team.

Provide clinical bedside teaching and supervision of staff caring for critically ill patients.

Facilitate and provide clinical skills training to new and existing staff.

Facilitate the coordination of pre-registration placements within the critical care service.

  • Registered Nurse, Educated to Undergraduate or Postgraduate Degree in Nursing.
  • ENB 100 Course or Diploma in Critical Care Nursing or other equivalent critical care qualification.
  • Evidence of personal professional development and study.
  • Recognised education qualification at level 6 or 7 to undertake supervision and assessment of learners
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Practice Education, or equivalent MSc in Higher Professional Education or equivalent, or commitment to undertake the above as the department requires.
  • Computer literacy.

Desirable

  • ALS.
  • Advanced patient assessment skills.
  • Completion of a leadership development programme

  • Significant experience at band 6 level in critical care with evidence of clinical expertise and personnel management with minimal supervision
