Main duties of the job
As the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator for the Maternity Service, the post holder will:
- Ensure the provision and continuing effectiveness of a family centred antenatal and newborn screening and diagnosis service for the Trust, in line with the UK National screening committee (UKNSC) recommendations and national programme standards
- Be responsible for the overall day to day co-ordination of the Fetal Medicine and antenatal and newborn screening services
- Be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a high standard service to women and their families
- Lead the antenatal screening and counselling service and be responsible for the development of a sensitive systematic approach to the management and counselling of Maternity Service Users
- Provide clinical expertise, professional direction and leadership to midwives and support workers in the maternity unit.
To act as a specialist in the field of antenatal and newborn screening and diagnosis and fetal medicine. Assisting and advising other health professionals in the care of Maternity Service Users undergoing screening.
To report any possible risks or critical adverse incidents arising from the screening service through the Maternity Risk Management system.
Develop training programmes for all health professionals involved in the service to enable effective counselling of an appropriate level to be offered to the pregnant service user. To participate in in-service training
