Job summary

What is a Pharmacy Technician?

An essential member of the Pharmacy Team, working under the direction of registered Pharmacists, to provide Pharmaceutical care for patients.

The duties are varied. It is not simply counting tablets or picking a box off the shelf.

Many new skills will be gained!!

You will be undertaking a 24 month apprenticeship programme with Buttercups Training. You will receive protected learning time to undertake your studies and receive 1-1 support from your tutor as well the Apprenticeship Team at MKUH.

Our patients are at the heart of everything that we do.

We have recently restructured our working hours, meaning that standard hours are now four long days per week with weekends covered on a Rota basis.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person who has a flexible approach to work, the ability to work alone and as part of a team. Basic keyboard/ computer skills, the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, use judgement skills, decision making, good communication skills and professional attitude. It is an exciting time to join the Pharmacy team at MKUH. We are continually growing and have recently built a new Aseptic Unit, received a new Pharmacy Robot and had a new refurbishment to our Pharmacy Department. Our services are being developed to offer patients, nursing and medical staff more time with the Pharmacy staff, to ensure that every patient receives safe, high quality care.

Salary during training will be in accordance with Annex 21 of Agenda for Change:

During 1st year: 70% per annum of a Band 4

During 2nd year: 75% per annum of a Band 4

Milton Keynes Hospital opened in1984 and became a University Hospital in April 2015. We have around 450 beds and provide general hospital services for planned and emergency care for a population of approximately 300,000 people.

  • To perform, under the supervision of qualified Pharmacy Technicians all types of pharmaceutical work appropriate to level of knowledge and experience, for the provision of pharmaceutical services to hospital patients and staff.
  • To achieve the required academic standard for the Level 3 Technical Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences and the technical skills to obtain the Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Level 3 Apprenticeship.
  • Apprentices without Level 2 Functional Skills will be required to complete these prior to their End Point Assessment.
