Job summary

Are you an experienced Intensive Care Nurse who has an innovative leadership style with ambition, looking for the next step in your ICU career? We are looking for a dynamic individual to take our unit to the next level and support the leadership and development of our team as we enter an exciting phase of our new ICU.

As we enter an exciting new chapter following the opening of our modern 16-bed Intensive Care Unit, we are looking for a forward-thinking, motivated Senior nurse to join our leadership team and work collaboratively lead our unit, in collaboration with our senior Matron and clinical lead. This is a pivotal role where you will help drive excellence, inspire our teams, and influence the development of our service at a transformative moment.

Main duties of the job

You will work collaboratively with our Lead Nurse/Senior Matron to lead and manage our ICU team, enhancing and developing the patient experience, improving patient outcomes, and contributing to key organisational priorities. These include supporting improved patient flow, reducing sickness levels, ensuring adherence to the Guidelines for the Provision of Intensive Care Services, and enabling the safe and effective deployment of the nursing workforce.

You will provide visible, effective leadership to support team performance and high-quality patient care. You will lead by example, acting as a clinically credible ICU nurse, with proven track record in a senior leadership role, ensuring care and compassion are at the forefront of everything we do. You will contribute to key organisational priorities, including:

  • Enhancing the patient experience with improved outcomes
  • Supporting improved patient flow
  • Reducing sickness levels
  • Ensuring safe and effective staffing and workforce deployment

Your responsibilities also include:

  • Supporting and developing the ICU nursing team and Senior leadership team in ICU
  • Championing high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Leading quality improvement initiatives and service development
  • Fostering a positive culture, teamwork and professional practice
  • Playing a key part in embedding ways of working within our new ICU environment

  • Minimum 4 years relevant clinical and management experience at Band 7 or above in a relevant clinical critical care environment
  • Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of clinical knowledge and practice during working as Band 7 and its application to deliver improvement
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice, particularly within specialty

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of effective budgetary management

  • Registered Nurse with NMC registration part 1
