Job summary

Are you ready to take your surgical career to the next level? We are seeking an experienced Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) to join our dynamic team and lead in a specialist area of care.

As a registered healthcare professional with an extended scope of practice, under the supervision and direction of the Consultant Surgeon the Surgical Care Practitioner, you will act as first or second assistant for surgical procedures in theatre and be responsible for carrying out specific procedures during operations.

As Lead Specialist in this defined area of care, you will work closely with consultant surgeons, medical staff and other surgical care practitioners to develop this role to its full potential.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in operative procedures while assisting in all aspects of pre & post-operative care of Robot assisted surgical (RAS) patients. This will take place under the direct, indirect and proximal supervision of the consultant surgeons.
  • Support Registrar training in Robotic Surgery across Colorectal, General Surgery, Urology specialties; performing the bedside assistant role. The SCP and consultant surgeon will be the core members of the theatre team and the Registrar will be in a training role. The SCP, who will be dedicated to Robotic Surgical delivery and surgeon training, and cannot be called away to deliver non-robotic work. The aim is to facilitate surgical training by allowing registrars time on console (as console surgeon) rather than working at the bedside as first assistant with limited access to training.
  • Be involved in the strategic review and improvement of clinical services as appropriate through active participation with the multi-professional team.
  • Be responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence-based care.
  • Work in close participation with patients and their families to ensure shared clinical decision process
