Clinical Healthcare Support Worker

The closing date is 17 December 2025

Job summary

We are expanding our team of Clinical Healthcare Support Workers within Surgical Assessment Unit and we're inviting caring, compassionate people who are happy to work as part of a large and inclusive team to join us.

If you're kind, caring and passionate about making a positive difference to others, this role could be for you. Our Clinical Health Care Support Workers are integral to our nursing team. Surgical Assessment unit is a 14 bedded surgical ward, caring for emergency surgical, urology, ENT, MAXFAX, orthopaedic, patients, as well a 11 trolley Same day emergency care (SDEC) and 8 waiting room chairs.

You will be a core member of the team delivering personal care to patients. You'll also be key in supporting patients with their own self-care and independence.

It takes flexibility, commitment and compassion to be a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker, but in return we can offer you a rewarding career at the RUH. Many of our Clinical Healthcare Support Workers have progressed to become registered Nurses via the apprenticeship route, with full support from our nursing and education teams.

We provide all the training you need before you start working on one of our wards. You will start on our induction programme to help you settle into the Royal United Hospitals Bath and you will learn the skills you need to do this role and we will start you working towards achieving the Care Certificate (if you do not already hold this qualification).

Main duties of the job

You will be supporting registered nurses to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.

This is a busy role so you will be working together with your team to balance different tasks that often change. Your daily duties will be varied to include:

blood pressure monitoring

oxygen saturation levels

body temperature

pulse rate and respiration rate

glucose monitoring,

collection and testing of urine, faecal and sputum samples

wound swabs

removal of catheters

venepuncture

recording your actions accurately in patient notes
