Band 6 Endocrine Nurse Specialist

The closing date is 07 December 2025

Job summary

The Endocrine Nurse Specialist Service is a dynamic and supportive team within the Diabetes and Endocrine department. The successful candidates will be highly motivated and work closely with the existing endocrine nurse specialists, consultants, administrative team, and the broader multidisciplinary team. These roles will be primarily based in the outpatient setting and the newly established Endocrine Therapy Unit.

Previous experience as an endocrine nurse specialist would be advantageous but is not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided. The successful candidate will be supported to develop the skills required to perform dynamic function tests, deliver steroid sick day education, and manage both virtual and face-to-face clinics for a range of endocrine conditions, including hyperthyroidism and Addison's disease. They will also play a key role in supporting patients newly diagnosed with endocrine disorders and will contribute to joint specialist clinics, such as antenatal and pituitary clinics.

The post holders will also be supported by the multidisciplinary team to achieve the relevant competencies set out in the Society for Endocrinology: Competency Framework for Adult Endocrine Nursing, appropriate to their banding. Additionally, participation in events such as the annual Endocrine Nurse Updates and other relevant endocrine conferences is encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The endocrine nurse specialist will work autonomously to conduct endocrine dynamic function tests and provide education and support to patients with endocrine conditions through nurse-led face to face and virtual clinics.

The post holder will demonstrate specialist knowledge of endocrine conditions, including their investigations and management. Working with the multidisciplinary team, they will ensure the delivery of high-quality care. The role requires a solid foundation in nursing alongside the undertaking of advanced practice procedures to provide holistic nursing care to patients.
