Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a proactive and adaptable Band 6 Occupational Therapist's to work fixed term within the newly established Emergency and Medical Therapy Team at the RUH to provide exciting clinical and leadership experience in the acute setting.

The post will focus on the Emergency Department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) for the rapid assessment and discharge of a diverse spectrum of patients including medical, frailty and orthopaedic conditions, with over 60% of our patients going home the same day.

The post sits within the larger team and will support the other area allowing exposure to a wide variety of experiences in multiple acute and long term conditions and providing a supportive team environment. This includes Speciality Medical ward's leading on acute assessment, rehabilitation, end of life care, delirium pathways and complex discharge planning.

This role offers the candidate the opportunity to develop their rapid, acute assessments skills and further develop the role of an Occupational Therapist in the emergency setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to facilitate functional independence in relation to discharge, to patients in the Emergency Department, Medical Assessment Unit and Speciality Medical wards in the hospital to support the prevention of unnecessary admissions and to promote discharge facilitation Trust wide. They will also provide daily clinical management of Occupational Therapy staff working with the team as well as keeping close links with the Physiotherapists in the integrated Emergency and Medical therapy team. The post holder will have clinical autonomy and be responsible for the management of their own caseload, to have an awareness of the caseload demands within the whole Emergency and Medical therapy team and to allocate clinical capacity according to service demands. This enables them to co-ordinate the daily service delivery across the hospital in the most effective way. The post holder contributes to medical therapy service development and supports the Band 7s with implementation of change.

The Emergency and SDEC service is a 7 day service working shifts patterns 08.00-19.00 Monday to Friday and 08.00-18.00 at weekends.

The specialty medical ward service work 8-4 across weekdays and weekends.

The successful candidate's would be required to cover weekends as a part of the service.
