Main duties of the job
In this role, you will work as a valued member of the maternity team, delivering the newborn screening programmes and providing postnatal care to families across the Bath Clinical area on day 5. You will make a difference by supporting families during a crucial stage in their journey, offering compassionate, person-centred care in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, and home environments.
Under the guidance of the Newborn Screening Manager, you will be responsible for delivering both the newborn hearing and bloodspot screening programmes. You will also be supported to undertake a Level 3 Diploma in Newborn Hearing Screening within six months of starting the role, which will include some independent study in your own time.
Once appropriately trained, you will prepare and maintain screening equipment, arrange appointments and home visits, and support the daily operations of the service through administrative and clerical tasks. You will maintain and develop the clinical skills needed to deliver a gold standard screening service, while confidently engaging with families in a professional and sensitive manner.
A key part of your role will be to understand and clearly explain the conditions screened for, ensuring families feel informed, reassured, and supported throughout the process.
