Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse with trauma and orthopaedic experience to join our dynamic Trauma Assessment Unit (TAU) Team. The role involves the coordination of care of trauma patients and their surgeries, working closely with the on-call consultants, registrars, doctors, the site team, anaethetic team, theatre teams, ward teams, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, ortho-geriatrician team.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated specialist nurse with the ability to demonstrate good organisational, leadership and communication skills.
You will be the key link in effective communication of the trauma patients both within the hospital and at home, with an ability to multi-task and communicate effectively within a vast multi-disciplinary team.
You will provide support to patients with complex injuries and wounds on the wards, providing education for ward teams.
The role also involves working within the TAU outpatient department where collaborative assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of trauma and orthopaedic injuries and conditions take place within a same day emergency care setting. You will also be required to support with minor procedures and local anaesthetic surgeries within the treatment room within the unit.
You will already be working in the UK with current NMC registration.

Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the progress of the orthopaedic trauma patient along the agreed pathways, which are supported by the implementation of evidenced based practices and to lead in the facilitation of the hip trauma integrated care pathway, and individual patient's specialist needs.
To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
To educate patients/ carers as required where a need has been identified.
To provide information which enables patients to make choices about their treatment and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
To maintain a safe clinical environment.
To promote and maintain effective communication within the surgical division.
To maintain patient confidentiality.
To supervise junior staff in the delivery of care, through effective monitoring, mentoring, clinical supervision and reflective practice.
To provide clinical support as necessary.
Raise any patient safety issues to the appropriate manager.
To enter data into the national hip fracture register database, formulating action plans according to national findings.
Assist in the prevention of complaints through effective communication with patients and families.
To ensure the health and safety of patients, families and colleagues at all times.
