We are expanding our teams of Clinical Healthcare Support Workers within our hospital and we're inviting caring, supportive people to take a look at this exciting opportunity to join us.

If you're passionate and want to make a positive difference to our patients and colleagues every day we have a Specialist Radiotherapy Department Assistant vacancy in our Radiotherapy department.

Though viewed favourably, no previous healthcare experience is necessary. We provide all the training you need. You will start on our induction programme to help you settle into the Royal United Hospitals Bath and you will learn the skills you need to do this role and we will start you working towards achieving the Care Certificate (if you do not already hold this qualification).

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Radiotherapy Department Assistant you will be a core member of the team delivering personal care, both clinical and non-clinical, to patients. You'll also be key in supporting patients with their own self-care and independence.

You'll work under the guidance of Therapeutic Radiographers and your daily duties will be varied to include:

  • Delivering personal care such as taking patients to the toilet, helping with would care
  • Contribute to patient assessments such as blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature
  • Recording your actions accurately in patient notes.

The skills we are looking for:

  • You need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • You don't need any formal qualifications in maths but you will need to have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations
  • You will need to have a customer focused approach which is essential to providing patients with the best possible experience
  • You will need to be able to use IT systems and databases (training is provided)
  • You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems. You will know when you are able to correct or when to escalate.
