Clinical mental health support worker

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Clinical Health Care Support Worker to join our amazing team in the Children's Ward. We are expanding our existing team, and looking for a Clinical Health Care Support Worker with an interest in mental health. For children and young people. This is a brand new role for the Children's ward.

Are you motivated and enjoy the challenges of helping to look after children and young people attending the ward? Do you have an interest in mental health for children and young people? Do you want to be part of a proactive and dedicated ward team? Do you want to develop your skills in both ward work and share your interest in mental health on the Children's Ward? If you answer yes, then this could be the job for you. We work mixed shift pattern on the Children's Ward early, late, long days, nights, and weekends.

The successful candidate will be supported to develop their skills and knowledge within the clinical setting and supported within the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework). The Children's Ward fully supports all of our nursing staff in their career development and you will have the opportunity to be considered for the SNA (Student Nursing Associate).

Main duties of the job

The Mental Health Support Worker is a key member of the direct care team who is additionally skilled in communication and therapeutic engagement with young people who have difficulties directly communicating their care needs.

The Mental Health Support Worker is responsible for providing care and therapeutic support to patients and their families in conjunction with the Registered Nurse and directed by members of the wider multidisciplinary network, including Mental Health Practitioners from within the Paediatric Liaison Service.

When you join the team you will have an individualised induction programme for you. Our new members are encourage and supported to become confident and competent in your role.

The ideal candidate for the role will have experience as a health care support worker in a Health or Social Care Setting, have experience of working with Children and Young People. Have a passion and interest in mental health, be enthusiasm about caring for others without discrimination.

Have effective communication skills, be flexible and adaptable to change. Be able to work nights, weekends and long days.
