Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Specialist Dental Technician to join our Dental Laboratory team, in the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery & Orthodontic department.
Working closely with clinical colleagues, the post holder's primary responsibility will be the provision and daily management of the Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthodontic technical service.
The department is staffed by a friendly and professional team and the Laboratory team consists of 1 Dental Laboratory Manager and 2 Specialist Dental Technicians.
The post holder will be expected to construct a full range of specialist fixed and removable orthodontic appliances to a high level of complexity. The post holder will also be expected to provide dental laboratory support and model provision for the current specialties OMFS, Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry. The majority of the laboratory work will be prescribed by clinicians within the Orthodontic and Oral & Maxillofacial surgery department

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to construct a full range of specialist fixed and removable orthodontic appliances to a high level of complexity. The post holder will also be expected to provide dental laboratory support and model provision for the current specialties OMFS, Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry. The majority of the laboratory work will be prescribed by clinicians within the Orthodontic and Oral & Maxillofacial surgery department.
In addition to direct hands-on laboratory work, the post holder will undertake administrative duties, including dealing with patient enquiries and record keeping, further develop skills in the application of digital technology in orthodontics and oral surgery and maintain continued professional development.
The post holder will also provide general support to the Dental Laboratory Manager and the other Dental Laboratory staff, ensuring that services are delivered effectively in the interests of patient care.

- Registered with the General Dental Council (& maintain this annually)
- Degree/equivalent BTEC + experience in dental technology
- Post-graduate qualification or equivalent specialist knowledge/experience
Desirable
- Certificate in PAR calibration

- Experience in complex specialist appliance design and construction
- Understanding of health and safety policies/cross infection policies
- Minimum 1 years of experience in an orthodontic laboratory
