Staff Nurse - Surgical Admissions Unit

Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 5 staff nurses to join our highly successful and forward thinking multi-professional team.

We are a fast- paced acute surgical unit consisting of 16 inpatient beds and 11 trolley based assessment spaces providing care for Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics. Max-Fax and Gynae. We care for patients directly referred from primary care, Emergency Dept. and Urgent Treatment Centre. The ward has recently undergone a total refurbishment to create a modern and state of the art facility.

SAU also helped to develop the nationally recognised Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit. This clinic as well as an Emergency Urology clinic is also run from the ward.

We are looking for a caring individual who has a flexible approach to working, with a problem solving approach, ideally with experience working within surgical specialties or a keen interest in surgical nursing. We are looking for dynamic, motivated nurses, who will deliver excellent patient care and contribute to a positive team ethos.

The job will involve working primarily 12 hour shifts including days and night shifts. Main duties of the job

Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing

To co-ordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with the RUH Discharge Policy

To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.

To educate patients and their carers as required where a need has been identified.

To provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthy lifestyle.

To complete patient documentation to Trust standard.

To maintain a safe ward/department environment.

To assist in establishing and monitoring protocols/care pathways.

To participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication.

To ensure patient confidentiality.
