Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Speech and Language Therapist to join the supportive and dynamic Head and Neck Cancer team at Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH). The successful applicant will work autonomously as a band 7 (highly specialist SLT) to provide a service to inpatients and local outpatients as part of the wider Adult Head and Neck Oncology Service (0.6 WTE). The post holder will be based at the Royal United Hospitals Bath working within the ENT and OP department and the new Dyson Cancer Centre which includes the RUH's oncology, chemotherapy and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed inpatient ward, as well as a research team. You will also be part of the friendly and innovative adult acute Speech & Language Therapy team.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a highly specialist flexible service to adults related to voice and communication disorders, dysphagia, laryngectomy and surgical voice restoration following the diagnosis of a Head and Neck Cancer, in an inpatient and predominantly outpatient capacity
  • To lead speech & language therapy developments within the Head & Neck Cancer service
  • To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing highly specialist therapy to patients with ENT needs or Head and Neck Cancer (both benign and malignant) related to communication, voice and/or swallowing problems, including management of laryngectomy
  • To participate in the SLT instrumental service
  • To provide supervision and training to junior staff within the inpatient SLT team and Head and neck cancer MDT
