Job summary

A vacancy now exists for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Physiotherapist to join our supportive and dynamic team. The Orthopaedic Therapies team is a fully integrated therapies team, and as such you will be expected to work holistically undertaking all aspects of patient assessment and discharge planning. The position will involve working on our Acute Trauma Wards and in Elective Orthopaedics, a wide and varied caseload, including complex multi trauma patients. The position will include working Orthopaedic weekends.

The applicant should already have significant experience within Orthopaedics and have a keen interest in the management of acute conditions. Applicants need to have a broad range of experience in addition to their Orthopaedics skills and would benefit from experience in frailty and acute medicine. They will also need excellent communication and discharge planning skills, with experience of making complex discharge decisions autonomously.

As a band 6 the successful applicant will be expected to regularly support students on clinical placement and experience of this would be beneficial. As a band 6 you will also be expected to mentor and support rotational band 5 colleagues and assistants.

As part of a group of band 6 staff in Orthopaedics , you along with your peers will supported to develop more advanced skills to promote your personal development and be involved in service improvement projects.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high standard Therapy service
  • To participate in Orthopaedic Therapies weekend rota
  • To perform advanced therapeutic assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who may have diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions
  • To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences. Access to advice and support from a more senior physiotherapist is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
