Staff Nurse - Urology Outpatients

Job summary
We are currently seeking a full-time Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our busy Urology Department.
We are a very busy Urology Out-Patient department covering a wide range of clinics, diagnostic procedures, treatments and local anaesthetic procedures including Botox, Perineal Prostate Biopsy, and Circumcision. Alongside these you would also run the nurse led Trial Without Catheter Clinics, Flow Clinics, and Catheter Clinics when competent. You will be expected to cover administrative and clerical duties, including writing correspondence to other health professionals. Limited extended roles may be required to support the Urology Nurse Specialists and Practitioners.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate excellent inter-personal, communication, organisational and management skills, with a drive to promote a high standard of care for our patients. Mentoring and supervision of students and junior staff will be an essential part of the role. We are a forward thinking department, and actively encourage ongoing staff and service development. You must have a compassionate and caring attitude with a real team player approach to every day.
You will need to be flexible with regard to working hours/days as no fixed days will be offered. The out-patient clinics currently run Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm but this will be changing to include some late evenings and weekends. You will be expected to be flexible with your start and finish times.
Main duties of the job
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing
- To co-ordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with the RUH Discharge Policy
Professional Development and Education Responsibilities
- To develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/student education programmes
- To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staf
Research and Development Responsibilities
- To assist in promoting nursing practice in line with relevant research
- To be aware of personal responsibilities in relation to the maintenance of a safe environment and identification of potential risks for all personnel, patients and visitors, taking action as and when required
Resource Management Responsibilities
- To develop and maintain an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment
FLEXIBILITY
This job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the main responsibilities only. The postholder is required to be flexible in developing their role in agreement with their designated manager. In addition they may be required by their manager to carry out any other duty commensurate with their banding and expertise.
