Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist

Job summary

The Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath is looking to appoint a consultant gynaecological oncologist to join our motivated and energetic gynaecological oncology team.

The appointee will provide comprehensive sub-specialist gynaecological oncology care. Please see the job description for details of roles and responsibilities.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining Specialist registration at the time of the interview. Sub-specialist accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology from RCOG (or recognised equivalent) is essential.

The O&G team, are held in very high regard for our training opportunities, as evidenced by our GMC and Training survey results, where the O&G department is consistently ranked in the top 3 regionally and top 10 nationally.

An interest in research and teaching is expected of all consultants. Participation in QI projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the department and trust is encouraged. There are regular departmental meetings and research links with the University of Bath, University of Exeter and through the Bath School of Postgraduate Medicine.

The Royal United Hospitals (RUH) in Bath is a leading foundation trust committed to providing exceptional patient care and advancing medical knowledge.

The medical oncology support is led by Dr Rebecca Bowen and Dr Lucy Dumas. Dr Emma De Winton and Dr Jen Van Greithuysen currently lead clinical oncology for gynaecological malignancy providing radiotherapy at the RUH. The gynaecological oncology service is supported by a dedicated anaesthetic and intensive care team. Miss Ellen Nelissen leads the gynaecological oncology robotic surgical service. There is dedicated gynaecological oncology colorectal team led by Mr John Bunni to support colorectal anastomosis as part of the radical gynaecological cytoreductive service. Clinical nurse specialists support the diagnostic, treatment and follow up service.

Specialist pathologists Dr Pinias Mukonoweshuro and Dr Sarah Johnson support the MDT. Full radiology services include CT PET, SPEC CT for sentinel node localisation and a dedicated team of gynaecological radiologists led by Dr Kelly MacDonald.

There is an exceptionally strong research ethos in the trust both within the clinical trials unit and through Cancer Research at Bath University (CR@B) with Bath consistently among the top recruiters for national trials as well running a number of local investigator-led studies. The gynaecological oncology department is no exception to this and is active in clinical research with regional collaborations on translational research.
