Job summary
Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Oncological Radiology at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a new post to meet the increase in demand for radiological imaging services, in particular oncological radiology. A second subspecialty interest in GI or GU imaging would be of benefit to the department.
There will be a significant subspecialty imaging requirement but the candidate must possess skills, particularly cross-sectional, applicable to a general department
The post includes participation in the evening and weekend on-call rota. Outsourcing is used for most cross-sectional emergency work performed after 22:00 (Mon-Fri) and 20:00 (Sat-Sun). Home PACS links are available.
The RUH has a fixed-site PET-CT (GE Discovery 710) installed in 2016. Extensive developments to the main Radiology department commenced in October 2017 to further expand the department to provide a 3rd (3T Siemens Skyra) MRI scanner and a 3rd CT scan room for a new 128 multi-detector array, ultra high pitch Siemens Drive Cardiac CT scanner (for which we are a Siemens reference centre in Europe). We have recently completed refurbishment on our two 1.5T MRI scanners with Siemens Avanto Fit upgrades, and a 4th CT scanner extension (a second new Siemens Drive) was completed in July 2021.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will work to help deliver and develop the Oncological Radiology service.
The appointee will help deliver the cancer diagnostic service including reporting 2-week wait and surveillance CT and MRI, performing oncological biopsies and drainages, and preparing and independently presenting at the weekly multidisciplinary team meetings. The department has an on-site PET-CT scanner.
