Junior Sister/Charge Nurse Band 6 - Gynaecology OPD

Job summary

We are excited to announce 2 fixed term band 6 vacancies in the Gynaecology Out-Patients department , following a period of induction and in house training, to manage and participate in clinics independently, along with the existing nurse specialists.

This will also involve working clinically across all Gynaecology clinics, as needed, and coordinating and caring for women attending the Gynae emergency assessment clinic alongside the Sonographers and clinic Doctor and performing general managerial duties of a band 6 nurse.

The successful applicant will be supported in the early pregnancy and Termination clinics to develop skills in history taking, assessment, the planning and requesting of relevant diagnostic tests, evaluation of Ultrasound scan reports and then the organisation of operations or medical treatments in the ward area.

The successful applicant will need to have excellent communication and counselling skills to enable both groups of women to choose a treatment course that is appropriate for their needs and to be able to support them emotionally through their journey.

Main duties of the job

To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:

  • The shared day to day leadership, management and development of the Nurse led early pregnancy assessment and Termination clinics.
  • To undertake clinical duties in both these clinics across the week, as well as other Gynaecological clinics as required.
  • The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for women who have pain or bleeding in early pregnancy, who find themselves pregnant who do not wish to be or who have been diagnosed with a foetal abnormality which causes them to choose to terminate their pregnancy.
  • To be designated to manage the department and/or act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility.
  • To develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the department. Please refer to the attached Job description for more details .
