Job summary
Ambulatory Care is a busy, fast-paced and dynamic department which has a unique function within the trust to provide same-day emergency care for medical patients. We are a vital part of the Front Door, working closely with and supporting MAU and ED. No two days will be the same!
Throughout the day we take all medical calls from Primary Care and review any patients that day or the next who we feel we could prevent being admitted as well as providing symptomatic relief for our day case patients with blood transfusions and Ascitic drains.
We also work closely with our colleagues in Vascular Studies, Nuclear Medicine and Radiology to ensure an efficient and effective journey for our patients.
We have been nationally recognised for our Quality Improvement work and we continue to analyse our progress, constantly looking for ways to expand and improve patient experience.
We currently operate 08.00-19.00 Mon - Fri with our nursing staff working from 07.30-20.00, primarily long days. We are looking to expand into Saturdays for the winter and beyond.
We are looking for a dynamic and efficient Part-time band 5 nurse who is looking for something different and looking to progress. We are a department that will really embrace and value your clinical skills. We are able to offer either a 0.64WTE contract at two long days (12 hours) per week or a 0.80WTE contract with 10 long days (12 hours) over a four week period.
Main duties of the job
- To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care within the framework of team nursing.
- Administration of oral and intravenous medicines and monitoring effectiveness.
- Undertake an initial assessment of patients on arrival and escalate any concerns.
- Ensure patients are fully informed of their journey through our department and update relatives/carers as necessary.
- Ensure patients are handed over to other departments efficiently and safely.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure patient journey is safe and efficient to facilitate prompt care and discharge.
- Work closely with the Medical team to maintain safety and ensure all medication administration/tests are prompt.
- Venepuncture and Cannulation. Access to indwelling venous devices will be required, training can be provided for this.
- To maintain patient confidentiality and ensure all staff understand the relevance of this
- To maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- To be able to adapt to other roles (i.e admin duties, portering) as the need arises.
- To work towards being able to deputise for the senior nursing team and coordinate the shift when required.
