Job summary
A new and exciting opportunity is available for an enthusiastic, proactive registered Nurse to join our growing Medication safety Team to promote medication safety and antimicrobial stewardship trustwide. Reporting to the Medication Safety Officer (MSO) you will be a very visible presence across the Trust to promote medicines safety and support Nursing colleages. This role involves active management and sharingof reported safety learning events, working with all levels of the multidisciplinary team, pharmacy staff and medicines management leads to ensure that the investigation of safety learning events is carried out promptly.
Your development is also very important to us. You will be supported to train in one or more of the following areas to grow your ability to influence quality care:1. Quality Improvement and Leading for Change2. Quality, Service Improvement & Redesign (QSIR)3. Project Management4. Human Factors
The post holder should have a keen interest in medication safety and will be an excellent communicator, with strong attention to detail and presentation/ IT skills, ensuring learning from safety events by providing individual feedback and group education sessions.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the RUH Trust Medication Safety Officer (MSO) and Nursing colleagues to promote the safe management of medicines throughout the Acute Trust and Community sites, with areas in scope including (but not restricted to):
- Medication errors
- Antimicrobial stewardship
- Medical gas safety
- Anticoagulant use
- Controlled drugs compliance
- Medicines administration
- Automation projects
- Ward temperature monitoring
As part of the Pharmacy team, the post holder will work with and communicate with (in appropriate ways) all staff involved in the safe management of medicines. The post holder will also work with patients and carers in order to promote the safe management of medicines in hospital and at home.
The postholder will being accountable for his/her own actions and offer advice and guidance based on current evidence across RUH. Advice will be responsive to the needs of differing client and staff groups
The role will provide expert support and specialist education and training to RUH staff to embrace safe medicines management processes which will continue to improve the care of patients by improving the knowledge and skills of staff.
