Here is an exciting opportunity for an experienced specialist nurse to develop and lead the colposcopy service at the QEH alongside our experienced Consultant Gynaecologist.

The role requires you to:

To practice independently as a Nurse Colposcopist, accredited by the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).

To hold the Colposcopy Screening Programme Lead (CSPL) role as set out by Public Health England (PHE) for the Trust.

To work as an advanced practitioner and effectively lead and deliver an expert nursing service within the Gynaecology Department.

To maintain a cost-effective service, based upon the objectives of the department, care group and the Trust.

To manage a caseload of patients within the Colposcopy service and lead the multi-disciplinary team meetings ensuing reviews are conducted timely and patients are kept informed.

To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.

To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.

Main duties of the job

Provide an evidence-based specialist nursing service, which is responsive to user's needs, to a cohort of patients referred to the specialist service/MDT. Care will reflect current local protocols and national guidelines and will be delivered through face-to face consultation or via telephone communication on a day-to-day basis.

Work clinically for 80% of the role demonstrating advanced practice skills in the holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the cohort of patients within the specialist service. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy, using analytical and judgemental skills in undertaking differential diagnosis to ensure the delivery of appropriate care, in accordance with the BSCCP/NHSCSP guidelines.

20% of your role will be completing any necessary colposcopy administration, audit, MDT planning and national reporting.

Manage a cohort of patients and prioritise workload to meet patient and service need. Nurse Colposcopist Specialist The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust February 2025.

Undertake clinical competencies relevant to this specialist service to demonstrate expertise in extended nursing roles. Assess and effectively manage individual psychological reactions to diagnosis, treatment and associated side effects of including risk of cervical cancer, perception of sexually transmitted disease and future fertility.
