Job summary

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our Acute Stroke Therapy team.

The Stroke Therapy team is forward thinking and dynamic, and well respected within the wider stroke pathway. We work as an integrated therapy team comprising of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioners & Therapy Assistants, providing high quality assessment and rehabilitation across the acute stroke patient pathway. We work closely with other professions of a large multidisciplinary team including Speech & Language Therapists, Dieticians, Nurses, and Doctors. We work alongside very closely with the Community Stroke Therapy team who continue to treat a large proportion of our patients once they are discharged from hospital.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities of the position will be to work closely with the Stroke Therapy team to support patients following a stroke with their rehabilitation. This involves primarily supporting and treating patients on a 1:1 basis, in groups, and under the guidance of and alongside qualified therapists to help patients regain their movement, functioning, and independence. This will include supporting patients to achieve independence in personal care. Thorough clinical support and training will be provided by qualified therapists and experienced Assistant Practitioners/Therapy Assistants. This is a great opportunity to gain new skills and work in a busy, exciting, and dynamic team.

The post-holder would hold a full UK driving license ideally, but this is not essential for the predominant needs of the role. It is also essential to have basic IT skills.

We are looking for candidates with enthusiasm for supporting people with their rehabilitation and care, and ability to work using their own initiative as well as within a close team. A keenness in working closely with people is essential, as are good communication skills. The successful candidate will be required to participate in weekend and Bank Holiday working.

Due to the current needs of the team and service, the post-holder's agreed working days will need to include Mondays and Fridays. Normal working hours are 08:15 - 16:30 (7.5 hours per day), with some scope for potential minor alterations if needed.

About us

There's never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We're working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we've ever undertaken.

Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.

At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.

We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as 'Good', and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.

We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too.
