Job summary

The post holder will lead the strategic and operational estates and facilities management input into the scheme, optimising safety, sustainability, resource management and the transformation of hard and soft FM services to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

The Trust is planning a major rebuild of the Hospital. The current estimated capital cost of circa £900m. The Trust intends to develop a facility that is exemplary in its design, sustainability and wider regeneration and economic value. The Strategic Outline Case was approved in spring 2021 and the Trust will seek Outline Business Case approval by July 2025 with Full Business case approval by September 2026. It is the Trust's desire to move at pace with the construction of this development to have commenced works on the site by mid-2026.

Main duties of the job

Collaborate with the Transformation Lead and Operations Lead to ensure that the estate and facilities support patient care and operational needs.

Oversee the maintenance and management of hospital buildings, including fire safety, security and compliance.

Develop an Estates and Facilities Management strategy and approach that involves maintenance, safety, security, and efficient use of resources.

Assess the readiness of all hard and soft FM services, coordinating and executing plans to bridge gaps as required.

Work with the other Transformation Leads to deliver the designed layout of the scheme's clinical spaces to ensure patient safety and maximise the efficiency of their care.

Work with the Design & Construction Lead to ensure proper design, install and effective maintenance of the water supply, heating, ventilation, electrical, air-conditioning (HVAC), and medical gas systems and ensure effective commissioning of all building and engineering services.

Develop and enforce protocols for responding to air quality issues, including the identification and mitigation of potential airborne diseases within the hospital
