The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHSFT

NHS Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist - Special Interest Glaucoma

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant to join our Ophthalmology team, the successful applicant will ideally have a subspecialist interest in glaucoma.

This is a new post (10 PAs) joining five other established Consultant Ophthalmologists in the team.

We ensure that close collaboration of all the consultants takes place with regular fortnightly team meetings and there is a close working relationship with the managers of the service.

We work in a friendly and close team atmosphere with a diverse population in north west Norfolk.

We would consider appointing either a substantive or NHS Locum Consultant post to the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

We would welcome the introduction of a glaucoma training fellowship and research as part of this job and we currently work closely with tertiary glaucoma services at Norwich and Cambridge.

We undertake nearly 100 glaucoma surgical procedures per year as well as the latest MIGS. The department is equipped with SLT laser, Humphrey fields, OCT and retinal/disc photography.

There will be an opportunity to develop existing competencies in glaucoma interventional procedures and gain further experience in this area - all resulting in achieving NICE guidelines and National Targets.

We are a team that listens and works together to achieve excellence for our patients.

If you feel that you want to be part of this exciting department, with additional flexibility of developing and incorporating services within the exiting infrastructure then come and join us!

About us

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King's Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.

We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network.

In February 2022 the significant progress that has been made at QEH was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected. They recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).
