We are looking to recruit Newly Qualified Operating Department Practitioners to join our Anaesthetic team in Main Theatres. We are extremely proud of our ethos of supporting newly qualified practitioners and providing a team orientated environment. We provide an in house induction and provide an excellent preceptorship package. In house and external training opportunities are available to support you in your continued professional development.
We offer a supportive, exciting and challenging work environment with a supernumerary period for new starters. We are committed to the training and development of our staff which is supported by a dedicated Practice Development Facilitator. You will be given a rotational plan to ensure you achieve competence in your allocated speciality.
Our Main Theatre Suite comprises of nine Theatres and one Recovery Unit; one of our theatres is a dedicated obstetric theatre and two of our theatres are modern, integrated theatres. We cover a wide range of surgical specialties including advanced laparoscopic surgery.
We also provide skilled anaesthetic assistance in other areas such as CT, MRI, the Emergency Department and transfers to other units; along with participating as part of the resuscitation team.
The successful candidates would be expected to participate in a rota system that provides 24 hour care, including weekends and public holidays.
Main duties of the job
Registered Practitioners who will support the perioperative team by providing skilled assistance in Anaesthetics.
This post has been identified as involving access to vulnerable adults and / or children and in line with Trust Policy; successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS Check.
Please note, applications will only be considered from registered ODP's or registered Nurses with an approved UK anaesthetic qualification, or student ODP's nearing qualification.

Main duties of this role include:
To work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team providing assistance and service in all aspects of the Operating Department and work in other areas of the Trust such as A & E, Endoscopy, Delivery Suite and X-Ray.
To maintain good communication and enhance effective working relationships throughout the department.
To interpret and respond appropriately to direction from other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Ensure that records of patient care, drugs, specimens and implants are accurately and fully maintained and ensure effective transfer of information.
Ensure that agreed hospital policies/protocols pertaining to the delivery of patient care in the Operating Department are adhered to.
Keep up to date with advances in theatre/recovery techniques and with associated equipment ensuring proficiency before use.
Maintain and utilise equipment in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and ensure any faults are dealt with immediately.
To ensure that an aseptic technique is used in areas throughout the theatre unit in accordance with theatre standards.
Adhere to the infection control policies by ensuring the cleanliness of the department and strictly adhering to local and manufacturers recommendations on the sterility of instrumentation and supplies.
