If you are a student midwife qualifying in 2023, then Norfolk and Waveney is the perfect place to start your career. Our three providers of Maternity services - The James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth, The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn are working together to recruit newly qualified midwives in 2023.

Across Norfolk and Waveney, our maternity services support just under 9000 births each year. We're on our journey, as a system, working towards implementing a Continuity of Care model, for all our services users that supports people from pre-conception to birth and beyond.

We offer a range of services across all our system partners that are all tailored to the individual needs of our families, these include our midwifery led and consultant led birthing units, community midwifery hubs and home birth service. There are also other service available at the individual hospitals which can be reviewed through our patient choices leaflet in the documents attached to this advert.

Main duties of the job

Our commitment to quality, safety and professional development is at the forefront of our approach in Norfolk and Waveney and our midwives are well supported by teams of clinical educators and professional midwifery advocates who all help to develop and embed best practice amongst our teams. Once you've qualified and gained your NMC PIN you will start working as Band 5 Midwife and begin your preceptorship to help you achieve the clinical competencies needed to progress to a Band 6 Midwife and there will be lots of support along the way to help you achieve this. Across the three NHS Trusts, you'll also find plenty of opportunities to develop your skills, grow your confidence and pursue a career pathway that is right for you - be that specialist midwife, team leader, Consultant midwife or Head of Midwifery, we're committed to supporting you to achieve your career ambitions.

In 2023, all three NHS Trusts in Norfolk and Waveney will be working together to recruit newly qualified midwives, so that we can make the process of applying for a job and having an interview as simple as possible. As a newly qualified midwife we will provide you with a personally developed rotational plan through our maternity unit and into a continuity team to ensure you are able to consolidate, build confidence and gain core competencies to attain the knowledge and skills to enable you to achieve the objectives of our preceptorship package. The post holder has an important role within the maternity team to implement and carry out continuity of carer in line with the national agenda.

The post holder will be responsible as an autonomous practitioner for providing individualised and personalised midwifery care packages, whilst using specialist knowledge to continually assess, analyse and determine the appropriate course of action for a designated client group.

The post holder will be expected to provide high quality evidence based midwifery care and advice antenatally, intrapartum and postnatally, in a variety of setting including hospital, community hubs and home.
