Job summary

The post holder will assist in providing a breast screening and symptomatic service for the West Norfolk and North Cambridgeshire area.

The job involves the day to day operation of the breast screening office, making/changing appointments, telephone enquiries, filing, and computer data entry.

Provision of clerical duties within the Breast Imaging Unit.

The Breast Imaging service has unique facets due to the complex and sensitive nature of the work and programme.

In view of this, the post-holder has to be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion, considerable discretion, confidentiality, and inter-personal skills when dealing with staff, patients, their family and visitors, whilst ensuring that their dignity and self-respect is maintained at all times.

This post is exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1973 (Exemption) Order 1975. The post holder is therefore not entitled to withhold information about convictions for which purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act and in the event of employment, any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Trust. Any information given will be completely confidential and will be considered in relation to an application for the post to which the Order applies.

Main duties of the job

Use and understand the radiology computer system RIS, PatientCentre and the Breast Screening Computer system (NBSS).

To understand the fundamentals of the call/recall programme, as written by the Breast Imaging Manager, for all women eligible for invitation by the King's Lynn Breast Screening Service.

To change breast screening appointments over the telephone, accommodating client's requests where possible, whilst operating the computer keyboard.

Order medical records, track and trace missing records, locate and request films/images from other hospitals, locations.

Produce all paperwork for the mobile unit.

Maintain an accessible and efficient filing system and be familiar with all work undertaken in Screening Office.

Pull from file all previous films and records as required for clinics, printing labels and collating paperwork, filing paperwork when clinics are completed.

Sorting X-rays and reports for dispatch to the correct destination.

Daily administrative procedures directly related to NBSS, including electronic patient data transfer.

Participate in the NHSBSP Quality Assurance Programme.

Propose changes to improve administrative procedures.

Any other duties applicable to this post and grade, as agreed between the post holder, Planning and Workforce Manager and Breast Imaging Service Manager.
