Job summary

As our commitment to developing our workforce, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the local Higher Education Institutes (HEI's) to provide a 2 year Nursing Degree Apprenticeship (NDA) programme for aspiring candidates at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust. To apply for this post you must already hold a foundation degree at level 5. You may be required to undertake bridging modules prior to the programme start date which is dependent on your previous qualification.

We have a great opportunity to undertake this exciting two-year apprenticeship programme as a Nursing Degree Apprentice, leading to a Level 6 qualification and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse.

This role requires you to practice the National 6 C's of Care, Compassion, Communication, Commitment, Competence and Courage which outline the professional values, behaviours and commitment to continuously deliver a high standard education and care to our patients.

The Trust Values guide the expected values and behaviours of all colleagues, ensuring accountability for our actions. These values are embedded within the Trust appraisal processes and you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of how these have been achieved.

Main duties of the job

You will be employed for the duration of the programme as a Nursing Degree Apprentice in a home placement area with placement opportunities and a rigorous pathway of learning. The HEI will deliver the academic component of the programme and will work in collaboration with The Queen Elizabeth Hospital ensuring a high standard of work-based learning The contract will require at least 30 hours per week.

You will have the opportunity to develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of Registered Nurse through the NDA training programme.

There will be work based assessments which will contribute to the learning element of this programme to demonstrate your learning and skills in accordance to the NMC and apprenticeship framework. Working under the direction of registered practitioners within multidisciplinary teams you will assist in the provision of care and support the service users with essential care needs.

As an employee of QEHKL you will be expected to adhere to the Trust and training policies as stipulated by the training provider and Institute of Apprenticeship.

Attainment of academic achievement is a requirement of the university and the Trust will uphold and respect the decision of the training provider.

Substantial clinical placements will be undertaken and these maybe outside of your employed organisation. If a staff member is working on an inpatient ward, we would expect placements to be attended in alternative community settings.

About us

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) King's Lynn is located near some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK, along the north Norfolk coast, and not far from Sandringham House.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire. We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network. Some specialist services and clinics are provided in community facilities, such as the North Cambridgeshire hospital in Wisbech.

In February 2022, the significant progress that has been made at QEH in just three years since 2019 was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected, and recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures). We have an absolute determination to continuously improve care and services for our patients and their families.
