Applications are invited for a Speciality Doctor in Pain Medicine at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
- Specialty Grade Doctor in Pain medicine in a thriving multidisciplinary well established pain service.
- Appointment has become available due to rising demand for chronic pain services.
- There is potential for the post to become permanent and support will be given to the right applicant should they wish to progress further in their career.
- The Pain Service is recognised for training by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists
- District General Hospital setting based around rural farming and retirement population
- A friendly, proactive and progressive team of anaesthetic and surgical colleagues
- Work within a multi-disciplinary acute and chronic adult and paediatric pain service including dedicated medical, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as administrative staff.
- The Pain Service is moving to newly refurbished outpatient unit in early 2022

Clinical
- This appointment will provide high quality care that meets the requirements of the trusts objectives, to patients presenting to the Pain Service both as in patients and out patients. The appointee will become a member of a multidisciplinary pain team which provides a holistic pain service to patients presenting with pain in West Norfolk.
- Provision of Chronic pain clinics for new and follow up patients, intervention lists, participation in multidisciplinary Chronic Pain meetings and advice for chronic pain issues for in-patients. Participation in perioperative pain management is an option.
Organisational
- To work in an independent capacity within a multidisciplinary pain team for patients with acute, acute on chronic and chronic pain. The candidate will be supported by the incumbent Consultants in the Pain Service.
- To ensure personal knowledge of, and compliance with, Trust and departmental protocols
- To maintain high quality of patient care with minimal risk and enhance patient satisfaction with informed consent following GMC guidelines.
- To help in the delivery of effective services within the agreed budget
- To co-operate with other departments and agencies to meet the objectives of the Pain Services and the Trust.
Teaching
- To provide training, supervision and career development to junior doctors and career grade
- Opportunities to contribute to the education of medical and nursing students, paramedics and trainees in other specialties as required

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- FRCA or equivalent experience.
- ATLS or equivalent.
Desirable
- Membership of the British Pain Society, International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)
- FFPMRCA, DFPMRCA or equivalent

- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
- At least four (4) years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two (2) of which will be in Pain Medicine or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Pain Medicine; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Advanced training in pain medicine or equivalent (this is essential as the candidate is required to work independently)
