Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To share in the inpatient care on our two base wards and allocated outliers.
  • To provide new and follow up out-patient clinics.
  • To take part in the integrated general medical on call. Currently each consultant acts as physician of the day supervising the Medical Assessment Unit on approximately a 1:18 rota.
  • To provide clinical and educational supervision of junior medical staff.
  • To provide cover for colleagues during absence on annual or study leave.
  • To provide leadership and further develop the service.

The Trust has recently published a 5 year corporate strategy recognising the demographic of our local population and committing to develop services which ensure delivery of excellent frailty care, aligned to best practice in relation to care of older people. This has necessitated expanded Geriatric medicine consultant numbers to support and improve care of older patients.

The Integrated Care of the Older Person department has rapidly grown over the past five years. We are a team of six full time consultant geriatricians, with a full compliment of trainees, PAs and a multi-disciplinary team essential to delivering Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.

The ICOP physicians work closely together providing cross cover for sub specialty interests. Currently we manage 61 acute in-patient beds and 34 community rehabilitation beds. We hope to expand our scope to deliver a 7 day acute frailty service at the front door.

Great care can change everything and here at the Queen Elizabeth NHS Foundation Trust we want to deliver truly brilliant integrated care. Just like you we are ambitious about what we do and we are continually striving to improve our patients experience and outcomes. Bring your dedication and determination here, and you will benefit from the support of an experienced and enthusiastic multi-professional team committed to the delivery of brilliant patient care.
