We're looking for a Junior Clinical Fellow to join the Paediatric Emergency Department at Sheffield Children's - a dedicated Major Trauma Centre. This post offers hands-on experience managing different paediatric emergency presentations and is suited to those pursuing careers in emergency medicine, paediatrics, or general practice.
Our Emergency Department provides care for children under 16 years old, seeing over 58,000 new patients annually. With 24/7 middle-grade cover and daily consultant presence from 8am to midnight, the department manages a full spectrum of emergency conditions--approximately 60% trauma and 40% medical cases. Adjacent to the department is a 24-hour Acute Assessment Unit designed to reduce admissions through short-term investigation and observation.
The department is supported by ENPs, a GP-led primary care stream during evenings and weekends, and daily consultant- and nurse-led clinics.
About You:
Interviews to be held Friday 13th June 2025.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Lead Consultant (ED), your responsibilities will include:
-
Provide clinical care as part of the ST1-2rota
-
Help manage a diverse range of paediatric emergency cases
-
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including ENPs, GPs, and consultants
-
Contribute to the smooth running of adjacent Acute Assessment Unit services
-
Opportunities to contribute to non-clinical projects with dedicated support
Although this is a non-training post, an educational supervisor will be assigned. Regular appraisal meetings and interim assessments are encouraged. You will be supported in developing a personal portfolio, including a learning plan, records of experience, and evidence of progress.
