Job summary
Two posts available - starting August 2026 and August 2027.
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Paediatric Spinal Surgery team at Sheffield Children's Hospital for sub-specialty training in paediatric spinal surgery and research.
Over the course of 6 or 12-months, you will work with all our paediatric orthopaedic spinal surgeons, gaining hands-on surgical experience and contributing to cutting-edge research. You'll also be involved in the NIHR HTA funded BASIS study, allowing you to further develop your expertise in both clinical practice and research.
About You: You are passionate about paediatric spinal surgery and keen to further develop your expertise in this sub-specialty. You are motivated to pursue a career in this field and are committed to both clinical excellence and research.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Clinical Director, your responsibilities will include:
-
Supervise the Orthopaedic Ward alongside other Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellows and Specialist Registrars.
-
Participate in up to 2 dedicated operating lists each week, including dual Consultant operating.
-
Attend weekly clinics, some of which will be supernumerary teaching clinics, including a multidisciplinary neuromuscular clinic.
-
Complete a research project. The unit is leading an NIHR funded multi-centre RCT on spinal bracing, has been collecting outcome measures on all patients for the last 15 years, is involved with the British Spine Registry and has research potential with the EOS system.
-
Help oversee a BSc student from the University of Sheffield.
-
Dedicate at least one day per week to research commitments as the British Spine Registry Research Fellow - developing and delivering research and audit projects on spinal deformity management in the United Kingdom.
