Permanent | 26.25 hrs per week

We are looking for a passionate Exercise and Physical Activity Therapist to join our team as part of our vision to increase physical activity among children and young people. As an Active Hospitals Pilot Site, this role is integral to delivering improved physical activity, exercise tolerance, and engagement, initially in specialties such as Oncology inpatients, Asthma outpatients, pre-operative care, and obesity. You will also support broader hospital-wide exercise, physical activity, and rehabilitation.

About You:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Sports Science, or related field

  • Experience working with children and young people with physical or emotional health challenges.

  • Experience working with patients with respiratory illnesses and/or cancer

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Advanced Physiotherapist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deliver practical exercise sessions on the wards or in outpatients, working with individuals or groups of C&YP.

  • Collaborate with professional leads, clinical teams, and external agencies like schools and sports centres to encourage healthier, more active lifestyles for C&YP and their families.

  • Implement physical activity initiatives such as the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust programme.

  • Develop resources that promote physical activity and track engagement and progress.

  • Contribute to service evaluation and audit by recording activities and changes in physical health and fitness levels.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in exercise Sports Science or equivalent

Desirable

  • Behavioural change training such CBT/motivational interviewing.
  • GP exercise referral qualification Completion of Level 4 CanRehab course
  • Level 4 on the register of exercise professionals (REP's)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working with clients with physical and/or emotional health problems
  • Experience in consultation, goal setting and negotiation
  • Experience of working with children of differing ages.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of physical activity assessment tools
  • Knowledge of clinical assessment tools
  • Knowledge of fitness testing protocols
  • Experience of working in weight management
  • Understanding of the skeletal differences between adults and children and how this would affect interventions

Special Experience

Essential

  • Experience managing patients with respiratory illness and/or cancer
  • Experience of managing independent 1:1 and group clinics and workloads.
  • Experience of communicating with children of differing ages.
