Job summary
Fixed term: 6 months minimum, with the possibility of extending to 12 months
This position is designed for a paediatric surgical trainee at equivalent of senior registrar level, with an interest in joining a busy Paediatric Urology Team, undertaking specialist work.
Please note, this is not a formal training post and does not carry a National Training Number. GMC registration is required, and if the appointee does not hold UK residency, a work permit will be necessary.
You will participate in the general surgical STR/Senior Fellow on-call rota on a half-FTE basis, allowing you to maintain general surgical experience and develop the skills needed for a Consultant Paediatric Urology position in a centre with general on-call responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Paediatric Urology Clinical Lead, your responsibilities will include:

Work with our skilled urology nursing team, supporting NIBS, urodynamics, and complex patient care.

First contact for urology advice, providing daytime support to the PSU, urology nurses, radiology team, and other hospital and regional healthcare providers.

Help vet children for appropriate first reviews within the urology team.
Training will be provided in the following areas of tertiary paediatric urological care:

Antenatal counselling

Neonatal care

Minimal access surgery

Ureteroscopy

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Urodynamics

Hypospadias

Care of children with Spina bifida and spinal injuries

DSD and adolescent gynaecology

Nephrology liaison
Please note, we do not offer experience in exstrophy or transplant.
Flexibility is required to meet the demands of our busy tertiary unit. You will be able to attend urology lists outside your scheduled time if cases of interest arise.
