Job summary

Offering a Speech and Language Therapy service to children and young people accessing the Tier 4 CAMHS Becton Centre, who have a range of needs relating to mental health, neurodivergence, learning disability and/or speech, language and communication needs.

The post-holder will be based within the Becton Centre and will be fully integrated into the multi-disciplinary team, as one of two Speech and Language Therapists. They will be part of and supported by the Sheffield Vulnerable Young Persons Speech and Language Therapy Team.

The post involves identification and specialist assessment of complex communication disorders and potential provision of a range of appropriate interventions, including individual and group programmes to the service users and their staff.

The post-holder will also work closely with staff to facilitate their communication skills with this client group. The post-holder will support the organisation and training of staff to raise awareness of the types of communication difficulties faced by service-users and strategies to facilitate their communication alongside the band 7 therapist in post

Applicants will be registered with the HPC and Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (UK). Due to the nature of the post, applicants must have access to their own transport.

18.75 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

To work alongside the band 7 therapist in the strategic development of a Becton-wide, consistent, evidence-based approach to supporting and facilitating Speech, Language, and Communication.

To manage a highly complex and highly specialist caseload independently using highly specialist clinical skills to assess and develop treatment plans using evidence-based practice. To develop and deliver training for staff/parents/carers and relevant other professionals.

To work closely with staff, parents, and carers to facilitate communication skills within the identified population and to develop communication supportive environments.
